About the Club

An appeal for new members

"Adnalms Järnvägsklubb" (AJK for short) is the name that we have given to the club that operates and maintains the railway. Adrian Allum established the FLMJ as his hobby, but a by-product of its creation is to allow other people who are so interested to operate and maintain the railway with him. Adrian serves as the Director General, and with whom all decisions are final. With this situation, there is absolutely NO fee for membership of AJK, (and members assume no rights within the club whatsoever,) but it has to be understood, that the enjoyment of operating the railway has to be balanced with the chore/enjoyment (take your pick) of maintaining the railway.

Membership of AJK is open to anyone with a genuine interest in authentic railway modelling, who would like also to take an interest in the railways of Sweden, if not already! Members should be of a suitable age to be able to understand and obey the club’s rules, and are expected to attend for an absolute minimum of 12 sessions throughout the year, ideally balanced between maintenance days and operational days. A Membership Form needs to be filled in (and counter-signed by a parent or guardian if the applicant is under 16 years of age). Members are not expected to know the Swedish language, but we will provide a sheet of useful words in connection with the railway - including how to pronounce the station names etc.
New members under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the first visit, for safety and security reasons. (Such adult need not remain present for a whole session if desired!)

Right - Catering for related interests - an H0 scale Volvo - part of the scenery (of course)!

In order to ensure safety and enjoyment, the railway has a rulebook. The rules are easy to understand, and generally reflect common sense. Members will be tested annually on their general understanding of the rules, regulations and route knowledge upon the railway. Unqualified drivers will need to be supervised; again to ensure safety and that none of the models get damaged. (Although none of them are particularly valuable, it is quite a long trip over the North Sea to get spare parts!) Trainees are taught how to drive the models in the most authentic manner possible, and will become qualified upon the successful completion of a straightforward test. A similar procedure is procured for signalling also.

Right - Track maintenance is an on-going thing - to prevent accidents like this!

Members of the club receive editions of our main news journal, "FLMJ-Nytt" and our ‘internal’ magazine, "AJ-Nytt." (‘Nytt’ is the Swedish word for ‘news’.) Additionally, members are entitled to receive the annual review (with many pictures, most in colour,) and a calendar / diary. Members are also treated to outings from time to time.
All members are given opportunities to be creative, constructive, and component in the railway’s development. They are also offered support if they should decide to build their own model railways – especially Swedish ones! This is a totally voluntary club, and all members are most welcome. Additionally, we make sure that all of our visitors (some of whom may have travelled from Sweden,) feel equally welcome.

Delad glädje är dubbel glädje!

(A shared pleasure is a doubled pleasure!)

Välkommen!

(If you cannot comply with our conditions of membership (12 attendances for example), but would still like to get involved, we have a ‘Friends of the FLMJ’ register. There is a subscription for this; and members of AJKV (-Vänner – the Swedish word for ‘Friends’) will receive editions of "FLMJ-Nytt" and "AJ-Nytt", be allowed to join in with whichever club sessions they can, but not become qualified – needing supervision at all times, and will not have any expenses incurred during club events reimbursed, partly or wholly. Further details are available upon request.)

AJK presently has members aged from 12 to, well, he didn't want to say!

If you are interested in the club, please e-mail Adrian for more information about membership of AJK or AJKV.

An appeal for new members

We do not normally advertise for new members.  Traditionally, members have joined following a visit to the railway, when they have been suitably impressed with what we have here.

However, given the nature of the layout (in that it really does need more than one person to operate it), it is more than just inconvenient when members are unable to turn up due to other commitments.  So, we have decided to invite regular visitors to our website to consider joining AJK.
Remember, we are located on the outskirts of Farnborough (Hants., UK), and cannot be depended upon to provide transport to and from club events (the railway stations at Farnborough Main, Frimley and Blackwater are each a 20-30 minute walk away).

We normally require members to be aged 12+, but under-12s who appear mature enough will be considered (also, anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on their first visit at least).
Use our "
Contact Us" page if you would like to know more, and welcome to AJK.
